mailing lists

AARP continuously sends mailings to me without much reason other than past agreement-upon-demand during a demand-strategy telephone contact that retired people who want to organize such a membership should be free to do so.  (Because the same call-demand telephone networking operation has a significant death rate, however, network participants must be reported to police and/or FBI with predictable frequency; indeed, those formally designated 'retired' might well have become more categorable in terms of questionable paramedic visits and movements oversight.)

I am not a retired employee nor usual company-retiree-aged and do suspect that lack of spell-out for 'AARP' acronymn within by-mail literature and Internet website means yet another organization initiated upon demand without much discussion or debate, such that the 'American Association of Retired Persons' might eventually go the same route as the former 'National Organization of Women', which became quite suddenly the 'National Organization for Women' as the result from a paperwork change.

Pages of fine-quality paper stock are received in the mailbox throughout past years continuing to the present time, naming me as a potential member.  The most recent mailing includes a return envelope with detachable 'free-gift' notice, and a legal-sized perforated form holding two plastic membership cards (one for me and one for other household member).

So, what say?  'of' or 'for'?  That younger, non-retirees are being "welcome"ed to AARP means that the organization might be overcrowded with 'special' interests that might exploit retirees who really need help  --  help needed perhaps because claimed by the same 'special' interests against which AARP was formed to protect.  This isn't a self-concept but rather an acknowledgement that retirees hold caches of lifetime memories and experiences which AARP can serve to enable those to contract with interested biographers or memoirwriters without the direct elbow-rubbing contact that non-retiree AARP members bring to the organization (including drag that routes retirees into more work roles as action that must be energetically protested or...).

when is a teen something different...

Www.1490newsblog.blogspot.com presents an entry that describes "This week's Big 30 Selections" with a listing of regional PA/NY high school football players each weighing at least 200 pounds or more.

who does what to whom

o Www.sfgate.com website (among others) presents an Associated Press write-up titled, 'NKorea accuses South of psychological warfare'. North Korea _________ (what?), South_________ (Korea? what?). The article uses the term "spokesman", but is that really the viewpoint of such a person -- a "spokesman" for the Red Army in Asia? More collegiate hijinks at the diplomatic level (with rackets in hand)?

o When I graduated from Bradford Area High School decades ago, our graduating class was one of the largest yet seen in this city. During the ceremony, we were all seated in a new auditorium side-by-side; then at the ceremony's conclusion, shoulder to shoulder we all stood as expected and many began their post-secondary lives with a quick grasp of the tassel dangling from the mortar-board headgear to move it from one side of the cap to the other. Only I was so tightly squeezed that, with arms pressed tightly against my body and legs tightly held together, one foot slightly forward for balance,  the tassel was moved with a quick toss of my head.

A TV journalism segment recently showed a red-haired male paraplegic lacking arms below the shoulder, with legs apparently fused together showing one forward-facing foot. Instantly I flashbacked to that posture assumed at the close of the graduation ceremony in the northwestern PA mountains, and quite possibly so have some number of other grads there. The real suspicion is: can birth defects be intentionally caused using continual telephone call-demand contacts?

Wordplay and worse

The soul descends to hades? or, the Seoul descends to finnan Haddies?

Check these out from www.topix.net: 'China has suspect in Japan tainted dumpling case'; 'EU approves Bailout Loans for Greece', "German Chancellor Angela Merkel..."; 'Google's corporate site hacked, displays Chinese'; 'Former Cold War foes US, Russia to slash nukes'; 'All your base are belong to Facebook'; 'Taiwan to stay on alert over South Korean ship sinking: President Ma'; 'China's build-up is affecting regional military balance: USA'.

When is pseudointellectualism also universal? when the back door is just another door.

what's not new, but...

o The http://www.bing.com/ Internet service, originally described as an 'employment search' service, is now apparent as a general search website within ISP similar to others such as 'Yahoo!Search'.

o Water continuously trickles from a specific 'spot' on north Pleasant Street between Jackson Avenue and Pearl Streets here in Bradford, PA, as the presumed action of a spring but also perhaps a water-pipe leak during past years until the present time. The sidewalk is grassy and perpetually soggy.

o The Internet tells us that a Boston man is being held in Korea; the Archaeological Institute of America is headquartered in Boston, MA, and it is sincerely hoped that our little oracle-bead site in Degolia, PA (near Bradford, PA), has not been the impetus. The mucousal-artifact site has not yet been formally investigated among real archaeologists, although reported to local UPB faculty decades ago.

University of Leicester - AHRC PhD Studentship in Archaeology and/or Ancient History

University of Leicester - AHRC PhD Studentship in Archaeology and/or Ancient History

Great -- 'landscape archaeology' is included. Maybe other mucousal oracle-bead artifacts will be uncovered in Europe and beyond.

why not...

About a half hour ago, one of the yearly hailstorms commenced, complete with crunching-sound thunder and lightning. All ice having fallen (the size of commercial/residential ice-control salt), the distant rumbles of colliding clouds continue with slight rainfall...it's breeding season in the Allegheny Mountains!

Orange segments dropped near inland water streams in FL mean nesting time as angry 'gators recoup from seasonal egg-removal and outright shootings; here in northwestern PA, near the Enchanted Mountain range, it's discarded orange peels and baby snapping turtle time (the water's still too cold for people now anyway). Apple-blossom time should be forthcoming soon.

Brown beer bottle discard on Pleasant Street near recent blue painted flood-marker and shattered brown glass on Edward Street near Bennett Brook; disposable lighters scattered along ATA bus route throughout city. Snuff cans hither and yon, as well as an occasional jerky container.

commentary

o The Topix.net website has changed its buttons shown to click on different 'Share' feature such as e-mail, and the e-mail feature is now slower to appear than its predecessor (or just not set in our desktop programming yet).

A comment posted to the website's Bradford PA forum shows 'Trisha' pontificating about the dangers of DUI with regard to an automobile-crash entry; but then someone named named 'Trisha' was killed in a sledding crash near Salamanca NY.

o Springtime has begun in the Tun'a Valley, McKean County PA, which means that brown and lifeless maple-tree seeds once burdened with snow and swept from the driveway to be scattered in Bennett Brook might become an effect upon the many life-forms breeding in the region's waterways.
